About Nollaftra Frenchies

What Motivates Us

We fell in love with our first French bulldog who was purchased by our son, who is an Air Force Pilot, as his “dream dog” & within 24 hours of picking his dog up he got deployment orders to Afghanistan, so his fur baby came to live with us. Several years later we decided we loved this breed so much we wanted to contribute to making the breed better, so we invested in good QUALITY French bulldog lines that are healthy, DNA tested with good structure & temperament. If you don’t understand this investment, here’s an example: “YOLO the fluffy frenchie” was purchased for $150,000. Yes, you’re seeing that right! Some of our foundation females are his granddaughters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes French Bulldogs SO special?

They were literally bred for human companionship! And they know it! They LOVE you! Their one job is YOU! Like a child without college tuition!

Why do French bulldogs cost so much?

It's really comes down to how much time/effort (& of course money) goes in to creating QUALITY, healthy dogs/puppies:

  • Progesterone testing for female x2-3

  • Semen purchase ($2K-$20K) or

  • Semen collection from male x2-3

  • Semen testing for male

  • Artificial insemination of female x2-3

  • Testing/ultrasound to confirm pregnancy

  • Prenatal food & vitamins for pregnant female

  • Vet care during pregnancy

  • Progesterone testing for delivery date x2

  • C-section & follow up care

Cost of setting up a puppy nursery: incubator, nebulizer, suction machine, blanket warmer, whelping area, medical supplies, formula to supplement or provide nutrition, bottles, special made French bulldog nipples, special puppy food, blankets, puppy pads, wipes, toys & the list goes on!

Now you have puppies that you care for 24/7 for the first 4 weeks & beyond. This IS a full time job or you pay a professional whelper to do it adding an additional substantial cost. Frenchies are a brachycephalic breed which can lead to easy aspiration in pups & constant round the clock care is required or pups can aspirate risking loss without intervention. We've invested all we have into our pups & keeping them healthy until they no longer need our care.

Pups did great! Now we’re exhausted but definitely in love with all the beautiful pups we've raised. We’ve toiled endlessly over them for an entire 8 weeks, given them love, training, care, vaccines, microchipped & dewormed them, completed registration, paid for wellness visits & a certificate of health so they can come home to YOU!

Why breed when animal shelters are full?

Shelters are full not due to responsible breeders. Quite the opposite. As a reputable breeder we usually have waiting lists for our pups & will ALWAYS take our dogs back without question! It’s actually in the contract that if you decide you don’t want your dog for any reason they will be returned to us. Many French bulldog rescues in the country have waiting lists also. Most of these rescues exist because of inexperienced or irresponsible breeding of French bulldogs, not due to reputable breeders who have invested heavily in every aspect of producing a great quality & healthy pup. Also, the likelihood of one of our pups being returned is low because the buyers have also invested into purchasing a healthy, good quality French bulldog, a family member…. a companion for life.

Do you only breed “designer” French bulldogs & if so why?

No, we breed both AKC standard French bulldogs & “designer” color/coat/trait French bulldogs. Examples are fluffies, lilac fawn, chocolate, Isabella, merle, etc. We do love the standards also & love watching friends & colleagues in the show ring. But there is also a desire for the “designer” frenchies & let me be honest: when I saw a fluffy frenchie for the first time I squealed & knew I had to make one (rather than purchase one because we know all of our dogs' DNA).

Are French bulldogs prone to health issues?

They can be if the breeder is not monitoring DNA among other things. Every one of our dogs is DNA tested for the 8 known diseases common to French bulldogs & color/trait tested as well. We educate our families on caring for their pet properly & many of our dogs are now 7 panel clear due to DNA testing, intentional breeding, knowledge & background.

Our team of friends & family is highly experienced at working with clients on options that work for them & ensuring your home is the right fit for one of our dogs.

So there you have it! See the difference?? We offer education, guidance, support & you truly become a member of our frenchie family for life when purchasing from us!
